A.J.B. stands for Amelia Janis Bledsoe, my grandmother, who died of Alzheimer’s and dementia. For the last two and a half years of her life, I was my grandmother’s caretaker. I witnessed her experience countless emotions. In just a matter of moments, grandma could go from happy to sad, sad to upset, and upset to angry. In her honor, I decided to create shirts that reflect how you are feeling, and at the same time provide hope! As a child I always heard, “I always get the sh**y end of the stick”. That was it…no hope or motivation offered! The negativity left me with low self-esteem. Today, feeling empowered, if I were to make a shirt from that statement, it would say, “Treated wrongly, but still the Sugar-Honey-Ice-Tea”, lol! My grandmother was extremely kind, and she would give anything to anyone. I never saw her beg, or wrongly overcharge people for anything. This is why I want my apparel to be extremely affordable for everyone. I strive to create something positive out of the two and a half years which I witnessed Amelia’s suffering. I hope that my line will build confidence and boost self-esteem & self-worth, all while going against everything that we consider politically correct, in an inspirational and motivational way. My slogan is “breaking all of the rules”. I have been doing that my whole life based on the advice from my grandmother. I wish to demonstrate to people that breaking the rules is not always negative, as society has depicted it to be. I aspire to influence independence and strong leadership in others.
My goal is to go sort through all of the emotions I witnessed my grandmother endure, and to make positive and motivating shirts from each of them. I want to bring feelings to life through clothing. When people sport my stuff, I hope they’ll always feel confident, inspired, and strong.
